first_imgWilliam Gay is a cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL.  His pro football career is quite a story in itself, but his off-field activities speak volumes for the character of this man.  Four years ago he volunteered to help a social agency in the city not knowing at the time just what he would be doing.  It turned out that it was for a domestic violence center for women. This is near and dear to Mr. Gay’s heart because his mother died of domestic violence when he was still a kid.  This meant he had to be raised by a relative rather than his mom or dad.  With the current clamor on pro athletes and their tendencies toward domestic violence, he has been doing a lot to help other athletes understand what is expected of them. For the center in Pittsburgh, he acts as their spokesman and gives frequent speeches to different groups around the area.  He also sponsors a holiday dinner for the ladies at the center and their children.  Keep up the good work, William Gay.last_img read more
